It's only the beginning of school and things are already going this way..
my mum had a sheduled operation on 18th jan, ans i actually went in before her..0.0
Had acute appendicitis on wed, actually it was still ok in the morning sch hours, but after 12 it was quite painful already..it's like somebody squeezing your abdomen and not letting go.. Later it got worse and even my hands and feet were numb and weak and i had to hail a taxi to get home..i tried to look around the 3 clinics around my house and none of them were open, one even chased me out saying that it was full already..
later my dad's colleagues drove me to a nearby clinic which diagnosed me as appendicitis and referred me to A&E immeadiately..
By then i already had a fever coming up coz of the imflammation and i got to go to the isolated area. At there i waited for about 1 hr then got called by a nurse to do a basic checkup at the triage ( i think is blood pressure, heartbeat and breathing), who only asked me a few questions and told me to wait outside again for the doctor. By the time i got to see a real doctor it was already 4 plus. He checked my abdomen and diagnosed it as either appendicitis or ovarian problems, and he referred me to the O&G deparment. Actually i was pretty sure it was appendicitis but the doc said i mus get checked by a gynae before the surgical doctors do another checkup..It was quite pathetic coz the waiting area was small and cold and i was freezing and in pain at the same time.
By the time i reached the obstetrics department it was already near 5 and the nurse says i didnt drink enough water and they cant do the ubtrascan. Actually i havnt been eating anything since 8am on wed and when i reach sgh i thought i might need an operation or sth and so i refrained from food and drinks eversince.. I think the nurse asked me to drink about 1 whole litre of water! it was pretty hard coz it was really painful and yet u got to squeeze the water down your throat..=( And she actually did the scan 5 times coz each time she keep saying the bladder is not filled enough and she cant see anything..meaning she got to press on the pain part dunno how many times..haiz
Anw, after all the hastle it was already 7 plus and they decided there was nothing wrong with the ovaries and i got to continue to wait at the A&E for the next round of check up..at about 9 plus one doctor called me in to check on my abdomen again..later another senior chief doctor came in and repeated the process, followed by two other doctors from the surgical department. They introduced themselves and explained the operation procedure..the disappointing thing is that there was no wards available and they just said that the operation might be "tonight, in the middle of the night, or next morning" and as such, i was not allowed to eat any food till the operation..
By the time i got onto my bed it was already about 1am..0.0 and unfortunately the operation dragged all the way to thurs morning 10 plus, and everyone else in my ward was happily eating their breakfast while i can just stare at my drips..=X
The operation procedure was quite complicated, 1st they make you change into the ot gown, then they transfer you to another bed and push it to the OT , where a nurse came to ask your name, ic and your operation type, and u were rolled changed to another bed, and another nurse repeated the same thing, before pushing you to the specific operation theatre..and a doctor checked your condition once again and made marking on your abdomen for the surgeons, and the anesthetics doctor came to intro themselves.. Later u were rolled onto the last and final operation stage where alot of lights were shined on you like what you see in tv shows..hahas and they tagged you onto a machine which measures heart beat, breath rate and blood pressure.. Actually i didnt really know when they added the anesthetics, but by the time they gave me the oxygen mask i was already half way in dream land..hahas..its like you suddenly feel you are not in control of yourself anymore and your head starts to get heavier and heavier..
By the time i regained consciousness i was already in the observation room, still in the ot, where they constantly measured your bp, hr etc..my dad later told me that i had been in the ot for about 4 hrs!! The op was only less than an hr i think..
Actually i was quite lucky coz my parents admitted me to the class B2 wards, which was shared by 6 ppl, but there was constantly no wards available so in the end they had to push me back to the B1 ward that i temporarily stayed in..so i sort of got a free upgrade!! Coz the B1 ward got personal tvs and air con and it was only shared by 4 people..my ward was on the 7th floor and the view was quite good, coz i can even see the keppel port from there..and in the morning can see the raising sun =) while my mum's ward on the 3rd floor can only see the next block of sgh..heh
So by the time i was back in my ward it was already afternoon, and the doctors came later to check up on the post op recovery..they forbid me to eat and drink again coz it was just after my op and my gut might not be able to tolerate..so poor me had to starve again while the others munched on their dinner..
the nurses were very caring and kind, they made rounds in the night and came to measure our heart beat and pressure etc about 4 to 5 times in the middle of the night..and i was still given drips all these while till my entire right hand was swollen to double the size of my left..hahas
The nurses came to deliver the gurgle water promptly at 730 and breakfast at 8, and again there was no share for me since the doctors havnt checked my condition yet..
Later the docs came and concluded that my wound was healing quite well and decided to give me food finally!!! And by the time i got my 1st meal over the 3 days it was already 1pm, meaning i had been starving for the past 53 hours!!! I think i almost cried when i ate my 1st meal in 3 days!!! Wahahas..
I think they gave me a total of 12 bottles of drips!!! OMG !!
By the time i got my food the other 3 paitients in the same ward as me were all discharged..by afternoon time another 3 paitients came in and i upgraded from "junior" to "senior"..hahas
Anw, it is still a happy event to be discharged today, even though i got to return on the 27th to remove my stiches, and end of the month to do my follow-up check up..and i went home with 1 big bag of medicine..pain killers to be exact..luckily my wound was healing quite well and it wasnt so pain anymore..my mum will be discharged tmr afternoon..
The most miserable thing is because of the stitch, i cant laugh or talk loudly, cant sneeze( running a flu now..=( ), cant cough, and cant run, and cant do sports for 2 mths!!
I hope the rest of the year goes smoothly..
Return my laughter!!!
I shall srive to get well soon and thanks an awful lot for the darling nurses and doctors who took so good care of us!! You are angels!!
