Went for high-tea with mum in the afternoon at Carousel. I knew it would be good =p Luckily we made reservations earlier, when i called in the second time about a week before xmas, all the lunch hightea and dinner reservations were full till end of the month..0.0 When we reached it was about 320pm, still 10mins before hightea starts, and amazingly the queue to go in was already extending all the way to the rear of the hotel lobby. I like the ambience of the place, cozy and warm. The table was well laid even though it was a buffet restaurant, and i particularly like the black pepper grinder provided on each table. Food always tastes better with freshly ground pepper (by yourself!) =) The variety of food was quite ok, with sushi, kebab, dim dum, rice and some other food common in all buffets. One special thing they have was the kueh pie tee, never seen it in other restaurants before.
To be frank, i went to Carousel specially for their desserts, after reading all the positive feedback from various food critics =P And true enough, they were yummy!! They had three dessert stations, one with scones muffins bread and butter pudding sweet tapioca, one with a choco fountain plus fruits and marsmallows and good ice cream, and best of all a station with very nice french desserts. I tried the madelein with macaron, pistachio cheese cake, and this very nice three layer cake with crunchy choco cereals at the bottom. There were just too many to try and too little space =P Even though the desserts were only part of the entire buffet, you can feel that they really put a lot of effort and heart into it, which definitely made the desserts more yummy than ever =)
Also, being a high-tea buffet, there was no drink station. Instead, the kind waiters will go around serving good tea and coffee. They had a small jug of milk on each table, together with a tiny basket of white, brown and Equal sugar, so you can choose what to add to your tea and coffee =) So sweet!! =) I decided this is the 2nd best buffet restaurant on my list =p The 1st was this place called 百家乐, which had unfortunately closed down due to reasons beyond my understanding..it had a very nice dessert section with many glass shelves, about 3 or 4 levels. On each shelf there were different varieties of desserts all put in shot glasses, tiny but really good =) It is more like a piece of art, which makes you hesitate every time you try to deliver it to your mouth =P
After that we went to Isetan and taka. There were much more xmas decors this year, which made the atmosphere livelier along Orchard. I noticed that many people wore this cute tiny xmas hat on one side of their head, like the small hat that 梁静茹wore in her concert. I tried to find one but tcouldnt spot the place selling it. By 8pm, there were soooo many people on the streets we could hardly walk and breathe, which again proved that spore is so small that as if all the people have to gather along this tiny street to get some atmosphere of this annual holiday. No doubt the gigantic xmas tree in taka caught the attention of most people like how it did in the past few years. Went home at around 10pm, it was quite funny coz everyone was starting to come out and yet we were going back already..=P
Xmas day:
Went to PS with mum to buy some groceries, and joined in the annual Robinsons card members sale. The shop was exploding with people when we reached there, which really gave me a headache. Everyone was snatching and trying things like they had never went shopping before 0.0 After looking around for some time, we managed to get a new bag, belt, bed sheets, cake moulds for me and a shirt for my dad. I queued a whole 1 hour just to pay for the stuff, and both of us decided not to participate in such event ever again unless we were too broke and had too much time =p
After we reached home it was already 6pm and we had to start making dinner. Mum made chicken strips, fries and sausages while i tried a new dish: mango beef. Which turned out to be quite yummy..i must be a genius..ha!! =P Didnt expect a tropical fruit like mango will go so well with beef. I thought it would be salty since i added quite a generous amount of soy sauce for seasoning, but the tangy juice from the mango slice made it just right =) Maybe i will cook this again when my dear friends visit me =)
Made mango-peach-apricot cheesecake in the night, which i will bring to the class xmas party the next day =) It had been a long time since i last made a cheesecake. The last time happened in canyon, when i made a strawberry one for darren before i left. Hopefully it will taste nice, no it will definitely taste nice..hahas =D
